Pain Management

At MNRS Physical Therapy we provide pain management. Pain can occur in various parts of the body due to various underlying conditions. The pain may be acute or chronic, caused by injuries, underlying diseases, or neurological conditions. When it comes to pain management, you must rely on specialists who diagnose and treat the root cause of your pain rather than the superficial symptoms. Our physical therapists perform thorough evaluations to trace the root cause of your pain and curate personalized, comprehensive rehabilitation plans in Miami, FL.

Types of Pain

Acute Pain

Acute pain is a short-lived pain that occurs suddenly because of a specific cause, such as sports injuries, falls, accidents, cuts, etc. Acute pain usually lasts days or weeks and dissipates once the underlying condition or injury is healed. The pain is sharp and intense at the beginning and gradually fades away.

Chronic Pain

Chronic pain is a type of pain that lasts longer than six months, gradually worsens with time, and doesn’t dissipate if the underlying injury is healed. Chronic pain may last for several years, gradually worsening with time or appearing in short bursts. Symptoms of chronic pain include loss of mobility, fatigue, muscle tensions, nerve pains, lower back pain, headaches, etc. If you are experiencing any of these symptoms contact us at MNRS Physical Therapy about our pain management.

Treatment Options

Physical therapy is the best treatment option for pain because it identifies and treats the root cause rather than masking the symptoms. Physical therapists evaluate your posture, strength, mobility, flexibility, and the source of your pain to curate personalized exercise plans. This addresses the underlying structural problems responsible for your pain symptoms, thus ensuring long-term relief.

Epidural injections deliver cortisone steroids into the epidural space of your spine if you have inflamed or irritated nerves. The corticosteroid reduces inflammation of the nerves, thereby alleviating pain and discomfort. Epidural injections are particularly effective for individuals with arthritis, spinal stenosis, disc herniation, and other conditions that exert pressure on the nerve roots in the spinal canal.

Facet block injections are non-surgical means of reducing inflammation in the spinal joints and are effective for pain management in South Miami and Kendall. The facet joints are located at each vertebra of the spine. These joints can get inflamed due to wear and tear or arthritic changes, leading to chronic pain. Facet block involves injecting a small amount of local anesthesia and a steroid medicine into the targeted facet joints to reduce inflammation and alleviate discomfort.

Trigger points are extremely sensitive knots of tissues found deep within the muscles. When overused, the trigger points prevent your muscles from relaxing, causing pain and discomfort. Trigger point injections deliver a small amount of anesthetic and a corticosteroid drug into the trigger points to alleviate pain and discomfort. Once the trigger points are deactivated, the muscles can relax.

Laser therapy is a treatment wherein focused light energy is used to stimulate photobiomodulation. This is a process wherein photons enter the tissues and trigger a chain of biological processes that lead to reduced muscle spasms, increased cellular metabolism, and a decrease in pain. We use the cutting-edge LightForce Pro Therapy Laser to ensure optimal results with minimal discomfort. This is the least invasive technique to heal internal injuries and alleviate pain.
