Neurodiagnostic Testing

Neurodiagnostic testing refers to a series of tests and evaluations to monitor, record, and analyze nervous system functions. It aims to identify underlying neurological conditions and pathologies for effective treatment and timely intervention. The diagnostic technologies used for neurodiagnostic testing record electrical activities in the brain, spinal cord, nerves, and motor nerve systems, and these signals are interpreted by physicians to curate comprehensive treatment plans.

The following are the most common neurodiagnostic tests:

  • Electroencephalogram (EEG) records electrical activities in the brain to reveal different brain patterns. This test can diagnose epilepsy and neurological symptoms that cause headaches, imbalance, strokes, and other conditions.
  • Evoked Potential (EP) records electrical activities in the neurological system due to external stimulation. This test diagnoses optic neuritis, spinal cord injuries, and other neurological problems.
  • Nerve Conduction Study (NCS) records the time takes for specific nerve impulses to reach the targeted muscles. This test diagnoses neurological disorders affecting the feet, arms, hands, back, and neck.

Electromyography (EMG)

Electromyography is a diagnostic test that evaluates the health of the muscles and motor neurons, i.e., the nerves controlling the muscles. The EMG device uses electrodes to record the electrical signals transmitted from motor neurons to induce muscle contractions. The numerical values are then interpreted to determine if you have muscle dysfunctions or nerve dysfunctions.

Nerve Conduction Velocity Test (NCV)

A nerve conduction velocity test determines the quality of the nerve impulse traveling through the nerve. During this test, surface patch electrodes are placed at various locations over the nerves on your body to record the electrical impulses. The nerve is electrically stimulated to record the electrical signals passing down the nerve and identify signs of nerve damage.

Magnetic Resonance Imaging (MRI)

Magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) is a diagnostic test wherein powerful magnets, and radio waves reproduce accurate images of the inside of your body. This allows the physician to examine your musculoskeletal structure and identify the root cause of your pain, such as a pinched nerve, bulging disc, etc. MRIs also reveal if you’re responding to certain treatments.

X-Rays

X-rays use electromagnetic waves to reproduce pictures of the inside of your body. Different parts of the body, such as the bones, muscles, and soft tissues, appear in different shades of black and white, depending on how much radiation they absorb. X-rays are particularly useful in identifying fractures and other injuries of the bone.

Fitness Training

Our licensed physical therapists can guide you through exercises that improve strength, flexibility, range of motion, stability, and balance. This allows you to lead a healthy life while minimizing the risk of injuries. Our therapists carefully evaluate your overall health, discuss your goals, and understand your general lifestyle and activity levels to curate the ideal training program.

Ergonomic Assessments

Ergonomic assessments are comprehensive evaluations wherein physical therapists help prevent injuries and chronic pain caused by poor posture, workstation setup, and improper ergonomic furniture. All offices should undergo ergonomic assessments to ensure their employees don’t experience carpal tunnel syndrome, back pain, neck pain, and repetitive strain injuries.
